Project 3

Ground & VOlume

The dive into mixed media was not as easy as I thought.

The third project done was a test of creativity, assembly and execution. The task was to create three sculptures using no other materials than cardboard and chipboard. For the first sculpture we were to create a “thickened ground” sculpture following a precedent chosen by the student. The catch was that this model of the ground had size restraints. We were also not allowed to designate a specific orientation or create a baseplate off of which we build upwards. The second sculpture was to be an “elevated volume”, again with no baseplate or orientation. Finally, the third was to be a combination of the two as a usable, functional contextual environment. Throughout this iterative process, we developed and documented our project using
drawing techniques like sketches, orthographic drawings, diagrams, and collage views.
