Project 2:

Crossing Thresholds

In this next project, it all began with a space. We were assigned to choose any space on the campus of OSU. Ideally, that space contained some sort of threshold. The space I chose was a small courtyard between graduate-dorms, overlooked by many passersby. While small, the aesthetic appeal was all charm and natural beauty. The final form of the assignment was supposed to be a complete renovation of the space, transforming it to be more functional, visually exciting and practical. I took inspiration from Japanese gardens and New Orleans courtyards to create my final draft, which transformed the courtyard from a small walking path to an engaging hotspot of life and activity. This project taught me that there are always improvements to be made, while maintaining the integrity and character of the original space.
